You have a business to run, customers to satisfy, suppliers to manage and staff to take care of. Keeping the operation moving on a daily basis is a challenge in itself.
So doing this, protecting and driving the core business, while also making progress towards long term strategic goals is really difficult. It is also vital.
To drive growth and protect the long-term future we can’t just carry on doing the same old thing. We need to expand, develop new products & services, build capability and be ready to meet the challenges of a constantly evolving economy.
We live in a volatile and uncertain world and the pace of change is increasing constantly. Technology continues to disrupt traditional businesses and we still have to deal with the lingering effects of COVID, the structural impact of BREXIT and more recently the effects of a war in Europe that is causing a major energy crisis.
We could be forgiven for running off and hiding in a cave, but that is not the answer. The challenges do not go away.
The answer is to get ahead of those challenges, continue to grow and develop the business, so it is robust and strong when they come along.
The answer is to step back, take stock of the current situation, and develop a strategic plan.
The solutions and strategies are many and varied, the challenge is finding a rigorous and consistent method for their development and implementation.
There are 3 vital components;
We will provide the injection of time and experience necessary to make change happen while allowing the business to continue serving customers and delivering results.
Where the solution is known, we will establish pace and action immediately to ensure the business goals are achieved.
If an initial diagnosis is required, we will undertake a review (typically 1 to 3 months but faster when necessary) and develop a plan with you and your team.
The plan will be aligned to your long-term goals and objectives and be actionable and achievable.
Logistics is hard and getting harder. To safeguard against the challenges of BREXIT and create a platform for future growth I created Distribution facilities for Industrial and Electrical Control Equipment in The Netherlands and Atlanta, Georgia. The new facilities required a complete review of the businesses ERP applications to create an efficient supply chain solution and avoid over £1m of additional costs.
Expanding into the US Market is a strategic goal for many businesses. With an existing foothold generating £1m pa I led the expansion of the market to grow sales of Industrial and Electrical Control Equipment to £8m pa. Developing strategic partnerships and expanding into new territories grew the business to a scale where a local Distribution facility was required to support future growth.
Reporting to the shareholders responsible for managing the divestment of a £10m B2C ECommerce business supplying Sporting and Home Improvement products. The project involved implementation of a 3PL Warehousing partnership and the introduction of a coordinated project management approach across the business team.
Completion of a strategic acquisition of a Building Products manufacturer grew sales by £6m pa and doubled market share to 20%. The subsequent integration delivered a £1m profit improvement, achieved through a rationalisation of manufacturing facilities.
ERP systems are notoriously complicated. The result of that complexity is often poor customer service, excess inventory, and increased costs. With supply chains across Europe and Asia supplying products into the Builders Merchants and DIY Sector, I led the review and optimisation of the ERP Application to reduce inventory by £6m and increase customer service from 75% to 97%. I have also implemented ERP applications in the Aerospace, Automotive and Building Products sectors
UK Manufacturing Investment. Combining 3 manufacturing sites into one location through the investment of £3.5m provided the business with 2 facilities for sale and a substantial overhead saving. Manufacturing products for the Kitchen and Bathroom Industry, the project was made possible by implementing Lean Manufacturing techniques that reduced floorspace by more than 60%.
